How to join

Applications are welcome from those who have an active interest in current affairs and public service issues, especially those who are likely to contribute to discussions.

Advantages of Membership
Members of the Romney Street Group can attend all meetings and may bring a guest. Programmes of forthcoming meetings are circulated to members three times a year, in advance of the Spring, Summer and Autumn terms. There is usually an e-mail before each meeting with additional details of the next speaker. Members have access to an extensive archive through the website.

Members are encouraged to participate at meetings with questions and comment. Guests may also participate. The Chatham House rule is strictly applied: speakers may not be quoted outside the Group without their permission.

How to become a member
Intending members are requested to submit an application form. An application should normally be supported by an existing member of the Group who knows the applicant. In most cases the member will bring the applicant to one or two meetings as a guest.

Members of the Athenaeum who are not members of the Romney Street Group may also attend meetings occasionally.

Subscription and Fees
The current subscription for membership is £100 paid annually by standing order in October. There is also a meeting fee when attending the Athenaeum (currently £20) as a contribution to the cost of room hire and the lunch.
